Golden Arrows: shoot for a free copy of Warlord

Posted on

For those of you who don’t know about it, I have started a competition called the Golden Arrow Prize. Readers of this website earn “points” or Golden Arrows (GAs) for helping me to promote my Robin Hood books, either on the internet or in other ways. For example, some people make sure that they always retweet my Twitter messages, others post images of the book covers on websites, some have been lobbying libraries in the USA to stock the books, one kind chap has posted a review of my first book, Outlaw, on his electronic newsletter . . . you get the gist. When you’ve done something you think deserves a GA, contact me by email and tell me about it, and I’ll put you down for one, if I agree that the promotion merits such an awesome award. My decision is final when it comes to awarding points, and I’m working towards having a permanent score board on this website where people can check regularly to see how well they are doing. The winner of the competition, the person with the most number of GAs on the first of July next year, will get a free signed, inscribed hardback copy of Warlord.

This is the state of play in the Golden Arrow competition as of 5th December 2011

First of all I would like to wish everyone taking part the very best of luck!

Ohhhh, looks like a tight leaderboard at the moment! Still all to play for – I mean, we’ve got like 7 months!

By the way Angus, just seen the new photos you’ve uploaded – that is one elegant castle!

    All the best,

    Alex

  2. AngusD says:

Cheers Alex – I’m off to do my first day of filming tomorrow for the BBC’s Henry V! Early start, so I’m off to bed: got to look my best for the cameras.
    Night-night, Angus

Darn it! I posted exuberant recommendations about your first book on the Englistory forums just before this challenge was announced, so I guess that doesn’t count. Way to miss a coveted golden arrow :(
But if anyone would like to have a look at my post there(under the name Skaya), here’s the link…

We were discussing Ridley Scott’s film originally but naturally I had to chip in with a mention about the best Robin portrayal of all time!

  7. AngusD says:

Hi Lynne – thanks for the mention on Englistory.com – I am awarding you one Golden Arrow! Congratulations, Angus

    Hi Angus

I read alot of historical fiction from the long running Sharpe series,
to the Roman series of books by Simon Scarrow
Ive always been a fan of robin hood ever since i was
a boy but have seen his character destroyed by hollywood. You havei
rekindled that interest with a fantastic series of books.

Your depiction of the legend is unique and refreshing. You cant
help admiring and detesting him at the same time. In a
historical context you have done the character and im looking
forward to reading the third book soon. I wait in interest to see
where you go after the legend of Robin Hood.

    Thanks

    Robert

Thanks Robert – the truth is I don’t know what I’m going to do after Robin Hood. I have a bunch of ideas – Ancient Greece, 17th century England, 40,000 years BC – but I think I’ll probably just write a couple more Robin Hoods over the course of the next few years. Thanks for your email and you support: King’s Man (Book 3) is in the shops now (as a hardback, the paperback comes out this summer) and Warlord (Book 4) is coming out in July.
    Best wishes, Angus

    Angus,
I have never been much of a reader until lately, and I stumbled upon Holy Warrior at my library. I finished it in a matter of 6 hours, and now I wish I had just started with Outlaw. Well, soon I will be caught up, and cannot wait for the rest of the series. Fantastic writing and a riveting story. Thank you for kindling a new interest for me!
    Kurt

  11. AngusD says:

That is great news, Kurt. I’m really glad I have helped to introduce you to the pleasure of reading – many people don’t bother at all with books these days. The good news is that there should be plenty more Robin Hood novels for you to enjoy. I’m writing Book 5 at the moment and Book 4, Warlord, comes out in hardback this summer. If the books prove popular enough, I’ll be writing more of them – so tell your friends to get into the series. Very best wishes, Angus

  12. Liam Timbrell says:

Just wanted to say I browsed the library one day (Ironically, shortly after Holy Warrior came out) and happened across Outlaw, and one that appeared to be it’s Sequel, Holy Warrior. It intrigued me and so I took both out, and from reading the first few pages, I was hooked. I took them everywhere and didn’t do anything but read! Absolutely gripping books, keep writing them like that, and I’ll keep reading them!

  13. AngusD says:

I’m glad you liked them, Liam. Book 3 in the series, King’s Man, is out in paperback in a few weeks time (July 5th) – you should be able to buy it in your local supermarket/bookshop or get it from the library. I’m writing Book 5 just now. I hope you continue to enjoy the Outlaw Chronicles. Best wishes, Angus

  14. Ian says:

Great series, just reading Holy Warrior for the third time!

The plot is fantastic, none of the nonsense found in some books.

I put you up there with the likes of Bernard Cornwall and Gerald Seymour.

Looking forward to the next few books.

    Ian

  15. AngusD says:

Thanks Ian – that is high praise indeed. Both Cornwell and Seymour are favourites of mine. Hope you enjoy King’s Man (out on Thursday) as much as the first two. All the best, Angus
